Seats for cher show have i made the right decision ?

Seats for cher show have i made the right decision ?

Hi,i have booked tickets for 18th May.I have gone for the cheaper tickets in the second balcony, not because im a cheapskate but because there is not a bad seat in the house.

I also looked at length on the virtual website for the venue before making a decision.

The venue only holds just over 4000 and has one of the largest stages anywhere in the world,so i think that the atmosphere will be amazing.

I have seen Cher when she was on tour in the UK a few years ago and she was outstanding.

Have a great time.

even if it wasn%26#39;t the right decision, you got the tix and you can%26#39;t......turn back time (sorry, I just had to)

No, you haven%26#39;t made the right decision. You%26#39;re going to see Cher.

Thank you to people with good replies

Orion 725 took me a min to get it but very funny i cant turn back time but think i would have been in big trouble with my husband if i has spent all that cash on bad seats ha ha

Stupididiot i am almost blind and was looking for advise about seating to be sure i would be able to see cher i thought this site was to get advise not to be given stupid and hurtfull comments

your comment could upset the people who have paid a lot of money and are looking forward to this show!!!

I got tickets for the 24th, can%26#39;t wait, I was hesitant of getting seats in the upper mesidene because I thought it would be far away, was going to take binoculars. Glad to hear about there not being a bad seat in the house. Just to see such an icon, in vegas, is going to be great, we got the dinner at Planet Hollywood before hand too.

Looks like very good seats. Wife has tickets at the very back of front orchestra and is excited. SS 501 I think. Not sure how bad your eyesight is, but hopefully you%26#39;ll be fine!

PS

If you haven%26#39;t seen the look from the stage, check this out. You%26#39;ll be in that front section on the left.

Maybe you can bring a pair of small binoculars with you (they sell them inexpensively in camera stores, we always take them on vacation, lots of times there are things we want to see more close up).

Craps players going to be in LV during Memorial Day week?

I am relatively new to the TA and spend all my time on this forum. I love reading the TR%26#39;s. I was inspired by the Meet and Greets to see if anyone will be in Vegas from 5-23 til 5-29.

I think it would be fun to play some craps with some other TA folks. I will be traveling with my wife.

Please reply if this is of any interest to anyone...

Thanks,

TimGeorgia

Craps players going to be in LV during Memorial Day week?

Wish we could be there then Tim- we are going in early May for our anniversary. Too bad, I think I could learn a thing or two from you at the Craps table!! Mostly, how to have the guts to bet the Dont Pass!!! Never been to the Dark side yet....

Have a great time!!!

Shona ;-)

Craps players going to be in LV during Memorial Day week?

Too bad shona...that would have been fun. I hope you have a great time and win big $$$. I%26#39;ll be anxiously awaiting and expecting a TR when you get back.

Doing a holiday weekend, but it will be 4th of July. I don%26#39;t think I could keep up with you on craps, I only play $3 and $5 tables downtown. Whatever is smaller than a minnow, that is me.

Shona, I rarely play the Don%26#39;t Pass. As you probably know, craps is a crowd game, and it does not feel good to be betting against the crowd.

However, I often play the Don%26#39;t Come. If the shooter makes his point and then rolls a winner 7, we all get paid. So on the Don%26#39;t Come, I can root for the point and feel good about the shooter making it.

bump

I have never played craps, just watched hours on end as my friend loses his tuition money. I will be there thise dates as well with my girlfriend... hope to try it out this time

Be there may 22th-26th. The wife and I will be spending most of our time at a craps table. My favorite location is just to the left of the stickman, at the table in the front of Osheas.

My wife and I will be there from May 21st - May 26th. I have only played craps once and lost quick, but would like to learn. Usually play blackjack and do pretty well, but like the excitement on the tables at craps. We will be staying at The Venetian.

Let me know where you will be playing.

Go Browns, I too like to stand left of the stick. I%26#39;ll look you up at O%26#39;sheas

Hey bouche! My wife and I are originally from Nashville. We both grew up there. Anyways we%26#39;ll be there from the 22nd to the 29th. We%26#39;ll be at MGM, Paris, and Caesar%26#39;s. It would be fun to meet some fellow Tennesseans.

Downtown on a Sunday? 1st time

I am going to Vegas May 8th - 11th and staying at Caesar%26#39;s. I have never been downtown and plan on making it down there on Sunday. Is there live music, paint spray man, and good nighttime vib on a Sunday? Also, I was planning on picking up the fun sheet above Walgreens and was interested in using the MSS 2 for 1 buffet coupon. Is it valid for a Sunday? I had read somewhere on this forum that it might not work on Friday, Saturday night(seafood?). I will have my mom, sis, and aunt in tow. It is my aunt%26#39;s 1st time to Vegas and everyone%26#39;s 1st time downtown. Also, how sketchy is the 105 down there? We would go in the afternoon and take a cab back to the strip that night(late night bus ride might be more than my mom can hamdle as she spooks easily). Any advice on downtown in general would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Downtown on a Sunday? 1st time

self serving bump

Downtown on a Sunday? 1st time

We very often go downtown on Sunday night. The only time I%26#39;ve been disappointed down there was on a Monday night . . . no music and only one artist :(

Can comment on the MSS.

Also haven%26#39;t taken the 105, but we have taken the Deuce. It was an interesting experience. Not sketchy. I agree, however, about not bussing back at night.

Unless you really like to gamble, I wouldn%26#39;t plan to spend more than 2 or 3 hours downtown. The music doesn%26#39;t start until about 7. Light show starts at dark.

Just keep an open mind, you are not at CP any more.

Downtown actually in the city of Las Vegas, you will pass a sign that says Welcome to Downtown Las Vegas, that%26#39;s the city limits.

Just follow the crowd when you get off the bus. Then it is all a question of what you make of it.

Take the Deuce down just to say that you have. Get loaded on the cheap drinks see the light show hear the bands maye do some low limit gaming, have a good time, then take a taxi back to the CP.

Take it from me, traffic slowing up the Deuce can be hell if you have been pouring in the beers and the first safe place to stop to ';rest'; is Dino%26#39;s or the Strat.

PM me or for some extended reading try this.

tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i624-Downtown_a鈥?/a>

Since I am fairly new to the forum, I don%26#39;t know how to pm someone. Also, is the 105 the same thing as the duece?

click chitowngambler then hit send message. Just like email after that.

Thanks for the info.

Are you guys going downtown to gamble? Or just to see the sights? I just got back from my first trip downtown, and just had the pleasure of writing my first trip report, but we mainly casino hopped. We had a blast going from casino to casino, feeding a slot here and a slot there. It%26#39;s neat to look around a bit and to see the light shows, but I agree with coffeemug, if you are there for the loose slots it%26#39;s great, but if not a couple hours will be good enough. Hope you have as much fun as we did!

We are slot players, but I am going to take advantage of the lower limit tables too. I am going to try to not go crazy on the slots since I have a host for Caesar%26#39;s and want that play on my card. Does anybody know if the walk from the walgreens down there is far from the main lighted area? Thanks for any help!

The 105 is not the Deuce.

Walgreens is within the Fremont Street Experience.

The area under the canopy, east to 8th and north towards Main Street adn the Calafornia is well patrolled as are the boundries of each hotel in the FSE.

These days even if you leave those areas, chances are all you will run into is an occasional panhandler or soiled dove. Just polietly say ';No Thanks'; and keep moving.

sandi- We really enjoy taking a trip dt. You may want to go late afternoon or early evening though, things don%26#39;t start happening until later. Have a great time! (When we were there the 1st light show is at 8pm)

chitowngambler- Every time you write soiled dove, it makes me want to find my old Carl Sandburg books, which I grew up with and enjoyed. Also makes me want to revisit Galesburg!

Most important things to remember???? Staying at IP.

Ok I am on the count down I leave for Vegas next wednesday. What are the most important things I need to remember????

Ask for upgrade

no tunnel or most direct route to hotel???

large frozen drinks!!! watch my drink so I dont get a ruffie!!!

tip when tip is deserved

see all I can see in 5 days !!! Take lots of pictures and gamble!!!

Get trinket tokens by becoming a club member

Most important things to remember???? Staying at IP.

Wear comfortable shoes!

Most important things to remember???? Staying at IP.

Ask for a room away from the Harrah%26#39;s concert... unless you stay up pretty late... The IP is cool, in a great location.. Hope ya have a great time!

I love those trinkets.

Sher

YEA! 3 1/2 days for me. I%26#39;ll be there Monday night arriving hopefully on time at 6:12pm. Cabbing to my room at the Fitz.

The IP elevators are slow. Don%26#39;t forget stuff in your room.

Definitely bring those comfortable shoes! Drink lots of water. Don%26#39;t try to see everything on your first trip. Try to get downtown for a night just to see a different side of Vegas. Remember- things are not as near as they seem. Oh- and win lots and lots of money. Most important thing of all- have fun!!!

I tuck a pair of earplugs in my purse to help me sleep on the plane or in case there are noisy neighbors.

Tylenol PM because it%26#39;s hard to sleep the first night. I wake-up too early if I do sleep. If I use the Tylenol PM I adjust quickly and the rest of the trip is smooth.

vp beat me to it....DRINK WATER!!!

And don%26#39;t try to do everything on your trip. We%26#39;ve been going several times a year for almost 16 years and still haven%26#39;t done it all! LOL

If you want to be on your a$$ really fast - have a mai tai or two at the lounge in the back of the casino in IP - wow, those are strong!

The other thing to remember - the distances are deceiving, if you are walking, give yourself a bit of time!

5/1-5/4

Me and two buddies (so 3 asian kids running around in vegas - 25/26 years old) of mine are staying at Caesar%26#39;s during this time. We currently have no idea on what to do during this time...anyone else going to be around during this time?

5/1-5/4

If you%26#39;re into motocross at all, there%26#39;s a mini moto supercross at the Orleans Arena Friday and the AMA supercross finals at Sam Boyd Stadium on Saturday

5/1-5/4

KY Derby is that weekend. Definite time to play the ponies.

We%26#39;ll be at the El Co downtown from 5/2-5/5. We%26#39;re playing poker, gambling, drinking, playing more poker, gambling, drinking, etc. Ages 24, 30, 31.

We%26#39;re doing poker tourneys at Binions on Saturday, TI %26amp; PH on Sunday.

We%26#39;re going to put some money on the KY Derby, and one of our guys is going to the Motocross event on Saturday. We plan on going to Ellis Island for good beer and cheap food.

I think there is a De La Hoya fight in LA on Saturday night. It%26#39;d be a fun way to spend the evening. Throw some bucks down and check out the fight at a sports book (Hilton? MGM?)

Have fun!!!

  • Mega Bus trip to Laughlin

FYI to those who are going - Paging through the ACG, I see that after Las Vegas, they have coupons for Laughlin and other parts of Nevada too.

    Mega Bus trip to Laughlin

Chi, Thanks for the info on ACG.

I need to get hold of Alice one of these days soon And put all the details. I think the price might have gone from $5 to $7, but does include lunch and pick up at several hotels.

I was waiting for more people to book their rooms.

ALice did a lot of research and knows more than me.

    All I can say is...

It will be a fun ride through the desert and we will start playing at the Colorado Belle Riverboat on the Colorado.

It won%26#39;t be expensive and we will be picked up at GN and PH then delivered back to those hotels by 6PM.

We were wondering what the ';Turn a $20 into More'; is at the Aquarius. Anyone know?

    Planet Hollywood Pool?

Expedia has an amazing package deal for Planet hollywood for August. my question is I can not find a picture of the pool not even on their site. Does anyone know how the pool is here?

my mom is staying at Harrahs and I am tryng to figure out to stay at Harrahs or Planet Hollywood.

    Cheers!!

    Planet Hollywood Pool?

    Pictures and review here:

    vegashotelpools.com/hotel-Planet_Hollywood_F鈥?/a>

    Hope that helps!

    Planet Hollywood Pool?

VEry basic pools but I like them. At PH right now but not in the pool.

The pools are not very impressive compared to others in Vegas. Lots of concrete, while others have plantings and are beautiful.

Stayed there last year and the pool was very plain. As the last poster mentioned, lots of concrete. One day it was closed for a private party. Could have just been bad luck, but you may want to check ahead.

I really liked the hotel though.

Last year I stayed at Harrah%26#39;s and visited my parents at PH. Yes, the pool at PH is basic but so is the pool at Harrah%26#39;s and at least PH has two of them. Also the rooms at PH are much nicer. If you can get a room around the same price I would definatly choose PH over Harrah%26#39;s IMO. Have fun!!! I will be there 3 weeks from today. Counting down the days. :-)

    Rooms

any suggestions of the following hotels as far as views, ty in advance

    Mirage

    Mgm

    TI

    Bally%26#39;s

    FINS UP

    Ken

    Rooms

It is totally dependent on the room. All of these properties have rooms with breathtaking views, and rooms with lovely views of air conditioning equipment and parking garages.

A high floor strip view at Mirage is really cool. And some of the MGM rooms have great views.

The only way to be sure you get a good view is to book a ';view'; room, and these usually come at a premium.

    Absolut Suite - Caesars

Anyone who%26#39;s stayed here have any sort of opinion?

    Merci, if so.

    Absolut Suite - Caesars

Haven%26#39;t stayed in one or heard anything about them, Jaco......but did the virtual tour thing..sighing with relief that I%26#39;m too old for you, lmao! Too OTT in my book......other than the Ruby Red and peach. The others remind me of the good old days when they had the round beds and mirrors on the ceilings in some of the rooms.

    Absolut Suite - Caesars

I read that they are $3500 a night....gulp...probably why no one has responded.

J%26amp;S, by Gabby%26#39;s take I can see why regardless of the price. But Jaco there might make for some real fun commentary regardless.

    excuse the redundantcy..regardless

Looks like from my research (i.e. google) that this suite was originally a promotion for Forbes or GQ - can%26#39;t remember, even though I was just looking at the page two minutes ago. Anywhoo, in light of the trend towards luring the young jet setters to Vegas, CP decided to keep it around.

I did the virtual tour too - I guess not my style - too many colors and I make it a rule not to stay in a room that would look like my vomit.

What I%26#39;m looking for is a place for a bach party. So just sizing up the options for a room where the gang can gather at certain points of the trip and where the groom to be can live it up. Right now, best bet seems to be a 3BR skyloft . . . great video of it on youtube . . .

The Palms suites would be interesting too, but too far off strip.

3 br Skyloft. That%26#39;s one we don%26#39;t see everyday on TA. $200 trick?

Just saw this post. I stayed here begining of the month. I did a tr and will do hotel review when I have time.

It was great. The only problem is there isn%26#39;t any comfortable seats. It is set up like a club. Also the lighting in the bathrooms is not great for make up. We were a group of 15 girls, so that was important.

Other than that, the place is great. Tons of vodka and great service. I stayed in the Ruby Red room. The nicest in my opinion. The citron room was way to bright for me. The other 2 roooms were fine. The vanilla room was really cozy.

If you have a big group that likes to keep the party going, this is the place.

Let me know if you have more questions.

Looks awesome. The only thing that would do my head in would be opening the curtains to see a giant Toni Braxton trying to give me the come on.

I think you should go for one of the Palms suites. Who wouldn%26#39;t want a room with their own bowling alley and stripper pole in it??

    M

Stayed in the palms playpen suite for my bach party...it wasnt great. I would do the skylofts, they offer superior service and more room...the playpen suite was basically 2 regular connected hotel rooms with a murphy bed and a pole in them, the idea of the playpen sounds great but in the end it was small and way overpriced, looking back now, I would do skylofts in a heartbeat, the room is better, and the service is out of this world. At the palms I was just another regular guest, at skylofts they treat you like a king. Plus their conceirge service is just out of this world, they have done an amazing job for me helping plan fun stuff to do in vegas, and have gotten my VIP treatment for every club or pool I have asked for.

    Aug

PS. sorry I didnt address your Absolut question, but I havent stayed there, hopefully the palms and skyloft info helps...

    Airfare package for Planet Hollywood

I found a really good package on Expedia for August for air and hotel for 7 days for only $1342 total for two people. Since airfare right now is starting at $380pp from NYC this seems to be a great deal that would make the hotel only $582 for 7 nights.

Does anyone think the airfare may go down or should I just jump on the package and book it? I usually don%26#39;t book packages since most of the time it is cheaper to book seperate but is seems right now it is cheaper to do the package this time.

Any opinions also on staying in a Deluxe room at PH?

    Cheers!

    Airfare package for Planet Hollywood

I think you should jump on that. Airfares are only going to go up.

    Airfare package for Planet Hollywood

I would also take it. PH Deluxe room is just fine. I like their location and the Miracle Mile mall is a bonus. Don%26#39;t forget to go to the ABC store (They have 2) and get the $0.99 big bottles of water. Great bargain.

Non-stop airfare from beantown is about $450 - $500 right now. Hoping it goes lower or I might not be going back too soon.

Hi Magic, Booked air from JFK about a month ago,$325. I%26#39;m sure will never see that again. It is for end of Sept. It was also nice because it ended up being free. Had cc points.

We have just come back from Vegas 2 weeks ago and we paid only $245pp for airfare. It is just blowing me away on paying $380pp now for August that used to be the cheapest month to go to Vegas.

    Cheers!!

Is the hotel for 7 night or 6 nights? Also check on the time of the flights. The price isn%26#39;t bad but Southwest has some well price flights if you are near McArthur.

Also, if you are planning on gambling, you might be able to get some comps.

Airfares are scary. I booked last motn(Continental) from Knoxville and got RT for the two of us for $621.00 taxes included. I thought that was expensive at the time but I%26#39;m feeling pretty good about it now. We are pre-planning a trip with our don and daughter-in-law for the third week of October and am really worried about what the prices may be at that time. Misery loves company I suppose but it still hurts...a lot.

    visiting family in Golden Valley

We are going to be visiting family in Golden Valley, I know there is not much there so we are plannning on staying in Laughlin 4th of July weekend. Hotel is narrowed down to the Bell or Harrahs what do you think? maybe edgewater? we have 2 kids with us 9%26amp;amp;12 and you know they want the best game rooms.....

    visiting family in Golden Valley

I would say that with kids you would probably like the Colorado Belle the best. It is centrally located where you can get to the game rooms at the other hotels quite easily. Harrahs is way up the hill away from everything else, but it does have a decent game room. Kids usually like staying at the Belle because it is like staying in a huge riverboat.

    visiting family in Golden Valley

The Belle is fun to stay in. You could wear them out running up and down the long stair case. They do have a section for kids. Harrah%26#39;s is away from the others. I think they have a beach. Harrah%26#39;s is more expensive, but a nicer place. I just stayed at the Edgewater. I wouldn%26#39;t do that again. The buffet is cheap and good, if you get the card. They have the same buffet at the Belle with players card. Stay in the big Sedona tower if you go to the Edgewater. The other two mini towers are between the loading docks, very noisey. I posted a reveiw in the hotel section. The pool is small and not heated.

  • Vegas Buffets (Bellagio vs Paris vs Ceasar's)

Looks like there are lots of thumbs up for Bellagio and Paris buffets. Although there were also comments that Paris buffet seating was limited so that is a negative. Found quite a few thumbs down for Ceasar%26#39;s due to the small selection.

So, does the above sound accurate? I am thinking maybe it%26#39;s better to eat a lunch buffet (versus a dinner one) so you can at least walk off the fullness during the day time. Any thoughts on this?

What are buffet prices like at Bellagio %26amp; Paris?

Vegas Buffets (Bellagio vs Paris vs Ceasar's)

Vegas Buffets, The seating is fine =, but so many people go to it, so there is a line most of the time.

It has a lot of French type food on it. It is very good.

Caesars has an excellent buffet, the quality is excellent, yes the bad thing is there aren%26#39;t many selection as others has, but the quality is superior.

Bellagio is ok but overpriced, selection is limited also.

AN excellent buffet that is reasonable price is at Harrah%26#39;s, the food is good quality, service is excellent, %26amp; it is reasonable price for what you get.

Wynn has an excellent buffets with lots of top quality food, service is superior, %26amp; lots of great choices.

To check out the prices of buffet here is a website you can go to %26amp; see the difference prices of the different meals. I hope this helps you out for other things as well.

We like to eat a big lunch unless we have plans for fine dining in the evening or if we had a late breakfast, then we eat dinner meals or buffets, just all depends on what is going on.

    http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/buffets.cfm

Vegas Buffets (Bellagio vs Paris vs Ceasar's)

I have been to the buffets at Bellagio, Paris and Wynn. My recommendation is to go with Wynn - it%26#39;s the most expensive (only by a small amount) but it%26#39;s also the best in terms of food quality and general setting / ambience.

Another vote for Wynn, and go to the Dinner not lunch buffet

I just stayed at Paris. Even though I did not eat at the buffet there, everytime I passed it there was a huge line. I did eat at the Wynn and loved it. Walked right in on a Thursday night around 5:00.

    crystal

So sounds like the Paris buffet has a smaller selection that the one at Bellagio? Anyone know if Paris has King Crab legs? :)

I like Bellagio for breakfast, Paris for lunch and Mandalay for dinner. Wynn was good, but IMO wasn%26#39;t as good as these other three. The only draw back to Paris is a smaller dining area than the others.

I heard Bellagio has King Crab legs but not sure if that is only available for dinner. We plan to do our buffet for lunch and am considering either the Bellagio (if they have King Crab legs) or Paris. Does Paris have that for lunch?

    Favorite Craps Locales

Which are your three favorite places to play craps and why?

    LL

    Favorite Craps Locales

    1)venetian

    2)mirage

    3)wynn

had the most fun at these places ...

    Favorite Craps Locales

My favorite places to play depend on the mood I%26#39;m in. If I want to play behind the pass line, I go to Casino Royale which allows up to 100X odds. Most Vegas casinos are 3-4-5X odds. I never go over 20X though.

If I am playing aggressively (placing a lot of numbers) I like the Gold Coast. They have a strange rule about buying the 4 and 10 that no other casino in Vegas has. If you buy the 4 and 10 the $1 vig can be alternated if the 4 and 10 come up.

Of course, if you seven out you lose like any other casino.

When I want to take a stab at a jackpot type of win ($5,000 for a $5 wager) I play at a table that has the fire bet (although Sam%26#39;s Town%26#39;s All (Small and Tall) is very similar too. I hit the 6 numnber fire bet at Paris but only had $3 on it for a measly $3,000.

One word of caution about craps, roulette and other games is that on message boards a lot of people give opinions but I don%26#39;t think they actually play the games or if they do they don%26#39;t ask about the rules.

There are significant rule differences from casino to casino. If you play at the strip and go to a locals place, you can see a world of difference (mostly better but sometimes worse!)

Craps at Casino Royale is usually pretty crowded and it can be hard ot get a spot. Tropicana usually has a $5 table with open spots at any hour of the day.

Downtown, Golden Gate has an oversized craps table which means more people can play at the same time. Theoretically, this should be a good place to bet the dark side with so many different shooters in the game.

We just started playing last year, so not alot of ';all over'; experience- We really loved the Golden Gate- This year, I really want to try and get a spot at Casino Royale. Other places we played last year were Fremont, Vegas club and 4Queens. I must say that I am in love with this game- So much fun.

    Shona =-)

I like Rio, Bally%26#39;s, Paris, Caesar%26#39;s, and MGM. I liked playing at the Bellagio, but I didn%26#39;t fare too well.

I have always loved O%26#39;Sheas. Cheap and good action--usually good service.

Slots %26#39;O Fun by Circus Circus - because the table is practically outside on the Strip, and the limits are usually really low. I%26#39;ve always found the dealers friendly, and the atmosphere is great when you are just two steps from the strip action! Good luck, Dave

Love O%26#39;Sheas. Have done well at Paris and The Boardwalk(RIP). I always look for $5 tables.

My husband and I like to play at Casino Royale (if it is not too busy)......Main Street Station, the California (DT-I know the odds behind the line are not good but we have great luck there), El Cortez, and the Siverton....

Mainly all of these because the odds behind the line are usually 10X, 20X or Casino Royale 100X AND the minimums are lower.

    **I know.....I can%26#39;t count....you said your

    3 favorite.....

I am always looking for a $5 table, a spot to the left of the stickman and one or two shooters away from me gettin my hands on the pretty little dices.

    (Part) Day trips from LV

    Hi everyone,

This is our 1st time in LV and the US. And we would like to see as much as possible. Can you suggest interesting day trips from LV? Either by bus / tour or renting a car.

We are already planning on doing the Grand Canyon via Hoover Dam and Lake Mead by bus (1 day).

Any other suggestions for day trips? To see ';typical'; (= touristy) sights.

    Thanks in advance.

    (Part) Day trips from LV

Haven%26#39;t been yet but have been thinking of doing a trip to Zion National Park (2-3 hours from Vegas). Good hikes and views. From there it is two hours to Grand Canyon North Rim or Bryce Canyon. Both supposed to be great and some scenic roads to travel there.

    (Part) Day trips from LV

    Hi

If you rent a car you can get to Death Valley on a day trip, leave early and be back by dinner. On the way into the Valley you can also visit the ghost town of Rhyolite.

In the other direction you can go to Laughlin about 1.30hr from Vegas, a small gambling town on the Colorado river and a short drive from there you can visit the old west town of Oatman with midday gun fights and wild burros roaming the streets (very friendly and want you to feed them carrots!)

    Clive

    Any other Ghost towns?

Direct to Bryce Canyon takes how long? Is it different from the Grand Canyon? and worth (given the limited time in LV) taking the day to visit it?

    Many thanks for your help.

    Hi

We have been to Zion and we actually liked it better than the Grand Canyon, Bryce is a further 1.30hr past Zion.

If you go to Zion you could also visit the Valley of Fire, that is a really nice place, very interesting.

    Spamalot Closing/Danny Gans to Wynn

    From the Las Vegas Sun:

Somehow the show went on: The cast and crew of the comic music “Spamalot” weren’t in a laughing mood before Wednesday night’s performance at Wynn Resort and Casino. The performers, including star John O’Hurley, were given the sad and stunning news that the show would be closing on July 13, reports the show business trade website Stage-Directions.com. A Wynn spokesperson confirmed the details to The Sun.

“Closing in Las Vegas will allow Monty Python’s ‘Spamalot’ to pursue opportunities elsewhere which had been precluded by the show’s agreement with Wynn Las Vegas,” according to a prepared statement from the casino/resort. “Wynn Las Vegas would like to extend its utmost appreciation to the cast and crew who bring laughs to our audiences each and every night, and a special thanks to our eminently lovable star John O’Hurley.”

The Wynn Las Vegas spokesperson says impressionist Danny Gans, currently headlining at the Mirage, will take the musical’s place in the Grail Theater in early 2009; the theater will be refurbished and renamed the Encore Theater.

The Tony Award-winning “Spamalot,” which just began celebrating its anniversary at Wynn Las Vegas, will have played more than 500 performances when its contract concludes in July. “Spamalot” is the second Broadway-style show to close on the Strip this year, following the February shuttering of Mel Brooks’ “The Producers” at Paris Las Vegas.

    Spamalot Closing/Danny Gans to Wynn

Yes, this was announced last week. Danny Gans tickets use to be $35. When he moved from Rio to his current theater at Mirage they started at $69.

When the price for show tickets started going nuts (because people were willing to pay) Gans actually took a stand and said he didn%26#39;t want his tickets to exceed $100. They inched their way up to $100 and now his show is moving to Wynn. I wonder what the new pricing structure will be?

    Spamalot Closing/Danny Gans to Wynn

Yeah, we paid $100. While we liked what we saw, he did an abreviated show and we felt gyped. I wouldn%26#39;t be surprised they will raise the prices at the Wynn.

I called the Wynn, and they said that Spamalot will be continuing to run until 2009, don%26#39;t know if they were mistaken, but I called and asked

    Tipping at the Tables

I always tip the craps table whether I win or lose, lose and it%26#39;s $5 and whatever ones I have left, win and it goes up. The most I have tipped is $50 for a $400 winning session. What do all you other craps/card table players do?

    Tipping at the Tables

I play bj so I usually place a bet for the dealer every 3 or 4 hands. They seem to appreciate it that way, at least they always thank me after the hand.

    Tipping at the Tables

    50.00 for 400.00 is a little much

    20.00 would have been adequate.

5.00 when u quit is ok.

hmmm, no wonder they gave me great big smiles lol.

I agree with with Patron here. $50 is way too much for a $400 win. I might tip $50 if it were a $1K winning session, however having said that, I will make some bets as I go for the dealers or give them a $5 tip and let them decide how to play it.

If I%26#39;ve been there for several hours, as I normally do, I usually give them all my ones at the end, since I make bets for them while I play. One weekend, I made the crew(s) about $300 making bets for them.

In the end, it is up to you, but I think $5 - $10 per 2 hours is sufficient.

I normally make bets for the boys. At craps, when I am rolling, I will make a $1 passline bet for the boys and usually double odds, plus if my point is even, a $1 hardway bet on the point for the boys.

At BJ, whenever I am on a winning streak, the dealer is making money -- I always put an extra $1 on top of my bet, and when I win, that extra $1 that I get paid goes out front for the dealer (and my original $1 extra stays on my bet for the next dealer%26#39;s bet if I win again).

I have often had the dealer win more than I do at BJ!

I only tip the dealer if I%26#39;m winning. I don%26#39;t keep track of how much I tip the dealer, but if I%26#39;m on a winning streak, I%26#39;ll tip every other hand or so. If I get a real good hand, I tip bigger.

I%26#39;m a craps player and will usually place a pass line or hard way bet for the dealers every now and then when I am winning. Sometimes I just place a bet for them whenever my roll comes around.

I, too, only tip if I win. I will usually bet for the dealer whenever I get fractional chips ($1 or less) from hitting a blackjack, and then give them a $5 chip at the end if I%26#39;ve done well. At craps, I toss the craps dealers a couple of $1 chips if I have had a winning session (I usually don%26#39;t last more than an hour and a half at the craps table.) However, I like the idea of making a pass line bet for the boys - problem is I am not a good shooter so I think I%26#39;d do better to just give them the chips directly!

Never ever tip the Bums...Do they give you money when you lose big? No way....Save your tips for the girls who bring you a free drink. :o) Ms. Traci

I NEVER tip them, whether I%26#39;m winning or not!! The only time I%26#39;ll tip them is if they%26#39;re friendly and outgoing.

  • One night Of Luxury! (well on a shoestring)

We are visiting Vegas in September and will be there for our 1st Wedding anniversary.

We are staying off strip but....

I%26#39;d like to arrange a suprise night in one of the ';4/5 star'; strip hotels and a meal in a nice romantic restaurant with a tasting menu possibly?

I%26#39;ve looked at A) a suite in a lower priced hotels or B) standard room in the likes of Paris or Bellagio.

looking to pay around $400 for a room (midweek) and $300 for the meal?

Would be nice if the meal and hotel were in the same place?

    Any suggestions experts please?

    Thanks

    Dodger

One night Of Luxury! (well on a shoestring)

You may get the most bang for your buck and the Venetian. All there room are large suites... and you can get a nice one for around that price.

One night Of Luxury! (well on a shoestring)

I would second the Venetian. Lovely suites(all the rooms are suites). Lots of great restaurants on the property and many more next door at the Palazzo and Wynn.

What a nice surprise! Are you planning on having dinner and then just whisking her off up the elevator? VERY romantic.

I would choose a lakeview room in Bellagio and dinner in Picasso or Prime or LeCirque.

I think you%26#39;ll find the room will be less than your budget so you can spend more on the dinner.

Try during midweek and you should be good.

Bellagio and Prime would be a great choice

    What a great idea!

The room rate is totally dependent on when you go. I would vote for Wynn. Not huge rooms, but getting a room on a high floor with a strip view would certainly fill the bill for romantic. Something about the floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall windows blow me away.

You might find a regular room for as little as $159, depending on the night. You could upgrade to a tower room, but for one night, the difference isn%26#39;t that great. Maybe a panoramic view room would be in your budget.

As for dinner, $300 leaves me with a big question. Are you wine drinkers, and does that include wine? If not, then you can go just about anywhere. If that includes wine, then you might be a bit more selective.

Alex, at Wynn has a divine tasting menu.

Picasso (as someone else mentioned) at Bellagio would more than fit the plan too!

    Keep us posted!

if you%26#39;re planning on Venetian... I would attempt to Priceline it. You can usually get a room there for between $150-200 midweek from PL. There are strategies and online forums (such as biddingfortravel dot com) that will give you ideas on how much to bid for. Venetian is the only 5 star on the North Strip on PL.

As for the restaurant... I%26#39;d highly recommend the Alize at the Palms. Ask for a window seat. Or the Eiffel Tower with a window seat. Both are romantic. Alize has much better food... Eiffel Tower has a more romantic atmosphere.

    undathesea wrote: ';Venetian is the only 5 star on the North Strip on PL.';

Sorry to split hairs, but Venetian isn%26#39;t 5 stars. The only 5 star hotel rating in Vegas is The Tower Suites at Wynn. Venetian is 4 stars.

    Still a good choice though!

Go back and read the thoughts posted by Warmwinds...

I found a really good special for a Bellagio Lakeview room for one night last summer (we can%26#39;t afford the more expensive hotels) to celebrate our 30th Anniversary.

Our room was in the center and right over the middle of the fountains. We turned the TV on to the channel that plays the music and spent the evening enjoying the romance of the fountains, music, and each other...it was truly a special night and one we will always remember!

ok...I%26#39;m back to reality now. sigh

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions!

Venetian suites look amazing and they have an offer at the moment but it onlt goes to the beginning of Sept :-(

    Hopefully they may extend it?

Yes we do drink wine - but are not wine snobs or experts. Adding wine to siut each dish sounds great - only ever had the same bottle with all 3 courses before (if it lasts!! LOL!)

    Thanks again!

    Dodger

The Wynn, panoramic view room, and order room service! That to me would be soooooo romantic! The staff at the wynn are very accomadating and would really help you plan this!

    Tipping for an upgrade

If you are going to tip to try to get an upgrade on your room, exactly how do you go about it? Do you have to do it secretively? Will you be getting the clerk or yourself in trouble for trying this? Thank you!

    Tipping for an upgrade

Check out http://www.frontdesktip.com for info on how to do the ';$20 sandwich'; and the success rates at various resorts. It%26#39;s a fairly common practice and you should be fine. Just be nonchalant and treat it as what it is - a tip, not a bribe. Ask kindly if they have any complimentary upgrades, and they should be happy to oblige. Good luck!

    Tipping for an upgrade

No one can know for sure if this works or if it is just by asking nicely and being polite that sometimes gets a person a free upgrade. One thing to note though, the hotels or a good many of them know exactly what you are trying to do with the $20 trick. Vegas veterans feel it%26#39;s asking nicely and politely are the things that work, not money. Mainly it all has to do with how many upgraded rooms a hotel has when you check in, the day of the week, the length of your stay, how many high rollers they are expecting etc on whether you can get an upgrade or not. Some hotels don%26#39;t offer free upgrades no matter what. They might, however have some available at a reduced rate at check in.

About the free room upgrade, with the 20.00 idea, we will be at the mgm grand, cheap room, tower, so if we get a free upgrade, would it be to the west wing or would they do a suite., since we are at the mgm grand tower room, to up grade has to be west wing right., cannot be another grand tower room right., sorry we are not seasoned travelers. also, would they take the 20.00 and not give an upgrade., just think it is a tip without upgrade., and if they say there is no upgrade possible, can you then show the 20.oo and say, are you sure one did not just come in.

    Just calm down Tom.....

A moment ago you didn%26#39;t want to pay the monday night rate at the mgm, and now you want to pay for an upgrade?? Don%26#39;t say ';are you sure'; and wave the $20 in their face, because then it does look like a bribe - if you really must try it then just give them the $20 when you give them your credit card and pilitely ask if there are any upgrades available. Or just ask nicely (without the $20) when you get there, or alternatively just pay for an upgrade if you really want one.

You really need to take a step back and chill a little, you seem way to stressed about ways to save a dollar here and there.... just relax and enjoy what is sure to be a great trip.

jarjar makes very good points. And, I would never expect to get the $20 back if there were no upgrades available. I give it as a tip, whether I get the upgrade or not.

These are just my experiences with the $20 trick, so take it with a grain of salt:

    1. at Caesars.. booked the cheapest room they have (~$130 for time we went), and for $20 upgraded us to a nice strip view suite with a HUGE jacuzzi tub.

    2. at MGM.. was told there was no room available until 2 Pm (we tried to check in at 9 AM).. magically after $20 a room appeared .. a nicer room on a high floor that was ready immediately.

    3. From reading other%26#39;s posts, etc, it does seem that they will give you the $20 back if they can%26#39;t do anything HOWEVER, you should not expect this.. as others have said, it%26#39;s a TIP. If you aren%26#39;t fine with ';losing'; $20 not sure if Vegas is the place for you!

I don%26#39;t necessary expect an upgrade for it%26#39;s my first time in LV. I have booked in the grand tower. don%26#39;t want west wing. I would like a room with a view of the strip though. I may try it at the airport, see if I can get a room with a wonderful view. It%26#39;s only me and I feel lucky enough to go to LV.

    Heh Studer

When you check in be friendly and chatty with the person at the desk, tell them its your first time to LV and ask if they have any nice rooms with views of the strip.... you%26#39;ll be amazed just how far being friendly and having a conversation with the clerk can get you.... I hope you have a great time.

I have used $20 (usually more) upgrade trick at several hotels usually with sucess but it does not work at teh MGM. I heard last year that staff have been told that they wil be dismissed if they accepted tips for upgrades and thought that this was just a myth, speaking to a member of checkin staff there in February he said that thsi was true but they are now given good comission on paid for upgrades.

If you try this you have to accept its a trick, a game and if the desk clerk decides not to give you an upgrade and to keep your money tough. Its the same sa putting $20 on the table and expecting your money back if you dont get a blackjack.

I would love to hear the complaint that you would try to make ';I tried to bribe your member of staff and they did not give me a more expensive room for nothing'; ;-)

Book the minimum leve lof accomodation you are happy with (not what you can afford) and if you get an upgrade treat it as bonus.

PH I got an upgrade to a suite just for asking nicely I gave $20 afterwards anyway but she did not know I was going to do that.

Youy right, I need to relax, I just do not want to blow the money, and I think I will just keep the tower room at the mgm and not ask for upgrade since I hear west wing is not as nice. And I am going to spend the money and stay at the mgm at the higher price for the one night, since the other two nights are great prices, not worth moving to me. thanbks to all

    Flamingo Neopolitan Suites

Does anyone know if these new rooms are ready? Has anyone stayed in one if so? How are they?

    Flamingo Neopolitan Suites

I believe these have been available for a month or so. I haven%26#39;t stayed in one yet - can only get the regular GO rooms comped. Neapolitan Suites seem to be running around $350/night %26amp; Metropolitan Suites about twice that (all depending on what time of year you%26#39;re going).

Here%26#39;s a link to pics of some of the Flamingo rooms:

    http://carpetjoint.com/flamingopics.htm

    Flamingo Neopolitan Suites

They are ready and available to be booked, but they are expensive at this point. We are double Diamond players and hopeing to get one on our next trip in February, but not expecting it.

OMG, I think the entire floor of GO rooms is Neopolitan, like the ice cream. I had no idea they were actually calling suites that. Too funny.

I stayed in one last summer before they were called Neopolitan Suites. I can%26#39;t pick up on any changes they made in giving the room a new name. It is a ';double wide'; GO room. Full size bedroom and full size living room all in one open space. It was spacious, funky, and comfortable. But there were a bunch of minor annoyances. There is a large closet with a light in it. But you can only turn on the light from next to the bed or the entrance door to the room, niether of which are near the closet. There is only one electric outlet over by the entertainment center. The bathroom had no towel racks or hooks, everything was rolled up in funky GO room style, but it became a nuisance piling everything up on one of the two sinks. The toilet is set up in an unusual way in the bathroom. It is in a space that is certainly big enough to be its own room, but it is not. It sits alone in corner of the room that has to be 10 feet by 10 feet. No pictures on the walls, no other furnishings, just a toilet in the midst of a vast empty space. I was in a room facing the Strip, that is the side that has the Toni Braxton billboard on it. I hate those things, as they obstruct your view But all in all, still a great room.

we have one booked for May.

i%26#39;ll be sure to post lots of pictures and a full review of the room, as i also wasn%26#39;t able to find too much information on it here on this forum.

they are quite pricey, ours was about $600 a night for the weekend we%26#39;re there, but hopefully it will be worth it.

Just my opinion, but from what they look like, they are not worth $600 for a night when a regular GO room is around $200. They are only a few square feet bigger and seem to be around the size of a Rio room. We are comped all nights and maybe would pay a few dollars a night to upgrade for the extra room, but no way would we pay $400 more a night.

Now the Metropolitian Suite, that is a different story with 1500 sf and 4 TV%26#39;s.

We are comped in a Neopolitan Suite for 5 nights for our April trip. I can%26#39;t imagine any room I would pay 600/nite for, but comp is a different story. Our original reservations were for the Augustus tower at Caesars. We decided to take a chance on thses new rooms. I will post a review as to whether or not we made a wise decision. At least it will be different.

ashevalley- That is great that you were comped the suite. I have a question for you. My son is getting married at the Flamingo in April, and we (my husband %26amp; me) have our room comped through TR%26#39;s for the 4 nights we%26#39;re there. I would like to upgrade to a nicer GOroom, and don%26#39;t care if we have to pay extra for it. Do you think I should call ahead and reserve it, or take my chances and wait until we check in? From other posts I%26#39;ve read you get a better deal when you upgrade at check=in, but I%26#39;m thinking maybe I should call them ahead of time to set it up. Do they upgrade over the phone? Just not clear on how it works. Thanks for any help. Enjoy your suite!

If I really wanted to upgrade I%26#39;d go ahead and pay for it now. Better that than to be disappointed later. If you are being comped anyway, try contacting a casino host. I don%26#39;t know your playing status but the host can do things that reservation clerks can%26#39;t do. I have found the hosts at Flamingo very pleasant to deal with.

Congrats and have a wonderful trip.

    Kathy

Thanks for your quick response. That%26#39;s what I will do.

    Seating at Jubilee

Has anybody sat in the last few rows of the theatre for Jubilee? Our group of four wants to see a few shows so trying to save money and thought we would buy the $50 tickets. But not if the view is terrible. Thanks.

    Seating at Jubilee

Actually, being in the back is probably better than being in front. There is a lot of action on the sides and overhead during the show, and people who sit close are constantly having to turn their heads and stretch their necks to see. I%26#39;ve seen it twice, once sitting up front and once about 3/4 of the way back, and it was much better from the back.

    Seating at Jubilee

I think further back is good also, we sat right up front (on the long tables in the front)...we could hear all the onstage conversations (bickering) and it kinda lost its magic since we could see the fake eyelashes etc up close.

I REALLY like this show...great showgirl type of show...and it is long.

Thanks, Mike. Appreciate your prompt response. The agent at Bally%26#39;s box office was trying to dissuade me from getting the $50 tickets, saying they were in the last row, but I thought it might be better to check with someone at TA. If you know anything about Bite, would love to hear your opinion on that as well. Thanks again.

Avoiding the very front where there are tables and chairs or booths is a great idea - too close. We sat in the middle section right behind that area - I believe it was called section C in the second row and our view was amazing. No problem seeing to the sides or any of the front. Heard no bickering. The only thing I saw overhead was at the end when they went into the balcony. There%26#39;s no one flying around - lol. I wouldn%26#39;t want to sit in the very back and dodge around everyone%26#39;s head - not stadium seating.

We sat up back and it%26#39;s a good thing. That way, no one saw us sneak out before it was over. Way too boring. I actually fell asleep.

Shortcut btwn THEHotel & MB casino/pool via parking garage?

I saw on here (but can%26#39;t remember now) a shortcut through THEHotel%26#39;s parking garage to Mandalay Casino or Pool. Can anyone tell me the shortcut again? Thank you!!! (I used the search function but to no avail)

Shortcut btwn THEHotel %26amp; MB casino/pool via parking garage?

I would like to know this as well! I am staying at The Hotel over labor day weekend and all my friends will be at the MB!

Shortcut btwn THEHotel %26amp; MB casino/pool via parking garage?

This is the shortest way and doesn%26#39;t require walking past slot machines, although it is still a distance.

Exit THEHotel in the parking garage (where the cabs are) and turn to the left. Walk about 100 yards and there is an entrance to Mandalay bay on your left. You will walk through an area with restaurants, when you reach Red Square turn right and you will walk past China Grill and Rumjungle. This walkway will end when you reach the White (deli) of Red, White Blue, here you turn right (you will see Areole straight across). Now you are walking towards the convention center, however you are still on the wrong floor. When you reach escalators take them down, so you are now on the beach level. Turn left and there will be doors leading outside. Once outside turn lweft and it is a short walk to a side entrance of the MB pool area.

Don%26#39;t forget to bring your room key as it is required for entrance, and everyone (including children) must have thier own key.

It%26#39;s not as bad as it sounds, and there are a couple of places to rest along the way.

WOW!!! That%26#39;s the shortcut (lol)? Are you sending me on a wild goose chase???

You asked! Of course I could have made the directions a little less detailed, but I didn%26#39;t want to minimize it either.

THEHotel is a great place to stay, but this is by far the biggest complaint you hear. They should have built a pool for it, even if just a small one. But they thought everyone would rather use the MB pool. On the bright side, it is a great pool and worth the walk.

Thanks Ktinca. I figured you were just giving me very detailed directions. Much appreciated. Hopefully I won%26#39;t get lost!!!

    Dress code for shows

I understand the dress code for clubs and such, and I know there probably isn%26#39;t a dress CODE, per se, but how should I dress for a show? When I see a show in town or in New York I wear a fancy dress, but I%26#39;d kind of prefer to wear something a little more versatile, so I can stay out after the show. Thoughts?

Also, does anyone know the running time of Mama Mia?

    Thanks!

    Dress code for shows

evening gowns to jeans - take your pick, they%26#39;re all there

    just wear comfortable shoes

    Dress code for shows

We have tickets to the 7:30 show, and then we are on the guest list at Tao and they%26#39;d like us to get there around 10:30. Is this going to be doable? Would a cab be helpful, or could we ride the Duece?

There really is no dress code for the shows and unfortunately, nowadays you%26#39;ll see people wearing everything from formal wear to jeans to shorts!

We were at Mystere Monday night. There were gowns, formal attire, jeans and shorts. Anything goes as long as you%26#39;re comfortable.

The Mamma Mia show website says it has a 2:30 run time. That would let you out of the show around 10pm. I doubt you would make it to Tao by 10:30 - walking to transportation, traffic, etc. Don%26#39;t even dream of taking the Deuce with your schedule.

Okay, I just talked to our Host and she said we can come as late as 11:00. Cab or maybe the monorail?

Are you asking for transportaion from MamaMia to Tao, or are you going to stop at a hotel to change?

Just read when MamaMia gets out. Cab it down Koval.

Well, it doesn%26#39;t seem like we%26#39;ll have time to stop by the hotel to change, but if you wouldn%26#39;t mind giving me suggestions for both scenarios, that would be lovely :)

Unless you%26#39;re staying at the Venetian, you%26#39;d have to know the cab driver and leave a change of clothes with him in order to have time to change!

  • Questions, questions before we go to Vegas Sunday!

    Hi Friends!

Sorry I didn%26#39;t post these earlier (or one at a time), but I have been sick.

Leaving for Vegas on Sunday--can%26#39;t wait! Questions:

    1. Which casinos would you absolutely (or close to absolutely) SKIP on the Strip? How about Downtown (especially since we%26#39;re only going to be DT for one day)? Is it worth going out of the way to the El Cortez DT (looks a bit far to walk on a busy day DT)?

    2. Should one just skip the North End of the Strip (after the Wynn)--we%26#39;ll have at least 3 days on the Strip?

    3. Which are the best Casinos for free drink service while gambling (good service, good drinks)? Is it any drink you want at these places?

Thanks so much. Again, sorry I multi-questioned here, but not much time and I was el-sicko. Any answer to any question will be most appreciated.

    El Quizzler

Questions, questions before we go to Vegas Sunday!

Skip Circus Circus (unless eating at The Steakhouse) and Imperial Palace, both smell reeeeeeeeeally bad and have a thick headachy sort of atmosphere.

There really isn%26#39;t a great deal beyond Wynn, no. I%26#39;ll be visiting Peppermill%26#39;s but that%26#39;ll be the only reason fro venturing that far up. Oh, and maybe the Strat for the rides, but that%26#39;s cab time.

Questions, questions before we go to Vegas Sunday!

On the Strip - Dont miss Bellagio,Wynn,Paris, Caesars and Venetion.

Only plan a few hours downtown. Maybe get there around 6:00 and stay for the show at 8:00. The light show is really neat. Then leave shortly after. Went to El Cortez for blackjack and not worth it. Better game at Tropicana on the strip.

Great drink service at Caesras and Paris. I ordered cosmopolitans and appletinis at Paris and they were great! Actually in a martini glass too(LOL)

Those that I would skip on the Strip-

    Circus Circus

    Excal

    IP

    Hilton

    Monte Carlo

    Riviera

    Sahara

    Downtown-

    California

    Freemont

    Gold Spike

    Plaza

Dont have anything personal against these places, just if I only had a given amount of time, I might skip these!! Hope you are feeling better and have a great trip Quizz!!

    Shona =-)

That should have been FREMONT!! Cant believe I did that!!!( Hangs head in shame...)

Unless you are staying there I%26#39;d skip IP, Bill%26#39;s, and Bally%26#39;s on the main part of the strip. Not that Bally%26#39;s or Bill%26#39;s are bad, but they don%26#39;t have anything noteworthy to see. Unless you are willing to pay to go to the top of the Stratosphere to ride the rides, I wouldn%26#39;t bother to go to north of Wynn. I would also just go for the evening to see the light show downtown unless you are a heavy gambler. Except for the Golden Nugget, the casinos downtown are about the same. Had good drink service and an excellent mai-tai at the Wynn.

The problem with this is everyone%26#39;s opinions are different. These are mine for what that are worth!

I personally wouldnt bother with north of the Wynn.

The hotel/casinos I wouldnt visit again are, Imperial Palace (nothing special), Flamingo (we just didnt like it), Excalibur (again didnt like it), and New York New York (smelt like greasy foods and made me feel queasy). Apart from that I%26#39;d pop my head into the rest at least.

I had the best drinks service at Bellagio, Palazzo, Paris, and Mandalay Bay and the worst at Planet Hollywood and Ballys, although I still enjoyed gambling at both of them regardless.

I agree with Carrie105. It%26#39;s hard to ask what to skip, because if you listen to everyone, you might not need to go anywhere!

More relevant is what not to miss:

    Caesars

    Bellagio

    MGM

    Luxor

    Mandalay Bay

    New York New York

    Paris

    Planet Hollywood

    Venetian

    Wynn

    Mirage

    TI

If I hit those, I feel like I have covered the strip.

Usually, I hit most of them in a morning or two, just by walking from one to the next.

As far as downtown, it%26#39;s so hard to say, because the places are smaller, so the atmosphere really changes with the crowd. There are times that I have LOVED Golden Gate, but it can also be a complete waste of time. I doubt the walk to El Cortez would be worth it, but the rest of the Freemont St. places can easily be hit, and if something looks lame, you%26#39;ll just walk out.

    MGG

    I agree with mgg42.

Downtown, since everythings pretty close together, it really doesn%26#39;t matter.

GN and the Fitz, would be my 2 must see%26#39;s. Although IF I had to choose only 1 must place downtown it would be Golden Nugget.

Please understand that some ones dump is another man%26#39;s castle.

I%26#39;ve only been to Vegas once but I found the best drink service at Harrah%26#39;s. I would sit down at a slot and a waitress would show up within 5 minutes.

I second skipping Circus Circus. We played the slots there for about 20 minutes and our hands felt dirty just after that. There are kids running around like crazy there too.

My suggestion is to not over plan and just go with the flow.

You might have a few must sees on your list. Keep those in mind and let the rest work itself out.

If you are exhausted it is not worth walking far out of your way to see one more thing that is not on your must see list.

I am one of the few who don%26#39;t get the appeal of the Bellagio fountains. To me it%26#39;s just water shooting up in the air. The point is everyone has different taste so nobody can tell you what you will or won%26#39;t like.

    Memorial Day weekend anyone?

We are staying at Ballys that weekend...got SUPER good airfare out of Santa Barbara...$34.00 each way!! How could we NOT go.

WE almost got in the car and drove up there this past weekend as there was a really good Queen Tribute band that we like to see and a whole Queen Tribute in old town the whole weekend...but we already have a weekend Vegas trip planned.

    Memorial Day weekend anyone?

Same here, got a great deal on Allegiant and comped rooms. Couldn%26#39;t pass that up.

    Memorial Day weekend anyone?

Ill be there too! My second time to vegas! cant wait

I%26#39;ll be there too! Comped rooms at NY NY -- can%26#39;t wait!

Yup, getting married at the Flamingo...30 days from today! Coming fast!

The wife and I will be at TI.

Honoring the brave men %26amp; women of our armed force which have helped protect Las Vegas and the rest of our great nation.

    Rio.

Wife and I go every year. This will be our 4th time. Finally got comped rooms at PH. Can%26#39;t wait!!! 27 more days!

    How do YOU come out?

On Top? Break Even? Lose Your Shirt?

I go with a set amount, approximately $100 per day. I tend to get rid of that and spend a couple hundred more on a week long stay.

yet, I have a client who ALWAYS comes home On top by $1000 or more. The last time she went, she won enough to pay for the trip, spending on the trip %26amp; had an extre $2000 in the bank, and that was before she applied to the IRS for the remainder (Canadian).

    How do others do?

    Stacey

    How do YOU come out?

If only I knew enough to quit while ahead. I always come home broke but money can%26#39;t buy memories so ...

    say-la-vee (or however it%26#39;s spelled).

    How do YOU come out?

Usually even for the most part- We only take what we can afford to lose and so far we%26#39;ve never ran out of $$ before the trip ended.

Someday, it would be NICE however, if we came back with at least double what we took!! Dream on, I know....

    S=-)

it seems to even out....some trips come back with same amount of money we took which I consider to be a winning trip, otherwise less cash than started with and once zip..nada..had enough to get cab to the airport and that%26#39;s it..that one hurt!

When I saw the title of this thread I had no idea it was about gambling: thought it was something else entirely.

Oh well...........could have been interesting though.

My experiences run the whole spectrum. I have had trips where I couldn%26#39;t sit at a table without walking away heavy a $500 or 1K chip. And I%26#39;ve had a trip where I went the entire week without visiting the cage because I NEVER left a table with chips.

All in all, Vegas probably gets me for more than I get it. But that%26#39;s the way it inevitably will be.

I would take your clients%26#39; claim with a grain of salt. I know a lot of people who claim to ALWAYS come out on top. Funny thing is, they usually have a very selective memory.

just came back . went with 1000 cash in my pocket . came back with about $250 and only used my c.c. for skydiving ($300)and room phone/ internet services($30)

i was up and down (mostly down) until the last night .

but i went expecting to blow the $1000 and more on the c.c.

so, id say i came back up!

trips before i usually am up a bit or break even

First trip we went we doubled our money, took $1200 and came back with $2400. Every trip after that (about 5) we have lost, but have never lost it all; and have never visited the ATM, LOL!

    It depends on when we quit. If a good win at end of trip, great....it comes home. However, I don%26#39;t remember those...but do remember the times we spent 3 times what we planned to spend. Somehow, that old phrase should be....';What $$$ you take to Vegas stays in Vegas!';

There are some sad stories, but we somehow manage to have a great time ...it%26#39;s vacation!

The only thing keeping me going right now (cuz this month is creeping along so slowly before my trip) is picturing myself winning big.

    bells, whistles, comps.

    VEGAS BABY YEAH!!!!

    TI OR Planet Hollywood?

I am heading to Las Vegas in early September with my boyfriend. We have narrowed our hotel choices to Ti and Planet Hollywood. We are both in our 20%26#39;s and we want a hotel with good location and an awesome night life but also relaxing for the both of us. Opinions on where I should stay??

    TI OR Planet Hollywood?

Without question, Planet Hollywood. It%26#39;s all new, has plenty to do, good buffet, nite clubs in the Miricle Mile. TI is dark, dingy, and smokey in my opinion.

    TI OR Planet Hollywood?

Planet Ho has a great location, the Mircle Mile shopping mall attached, great (and resonalble places to eat) Nightlife is ok.

however, if you a planning to gamble you may choose to stay at TI since it is part of the MGMs players club and your play at multliple MGM properties may count for something..

Thanks!! any suggestions are great! We aren%26#39;t really big gamblers although we do plan on gambling while we are there!

If the price difference doesn%26#39;t matter to you, I would stay at PH. I stayed at TI in Dec and liked it okay, but I would definitely stay at PH over TI given the choice. Granted, I didn%26#39;t see the rooms at PH, but I really like the look of their casino, it has a really cool vibe. And the have some upscale dining and nightclub options if you are looking for that. I think the location is a lot better than TI, too, because you%26#39;re fairly close to a lot of other nice places. PH definitely has a younger, cooler, feel to it than TI. Just FYI- I%26#39;m in my twenties, too, in case you are wondering.

i%26#39;ve stayed at both this vacation, so I have seen both within the last 48 hours. I would say PH, if you don%26#39;t mind the extra $50 a night.. It really is awesome if you are young and looking for fun

TI is cool, but it%26#39;s too dark, machines are tight.. no real nightlife in my opinion..

The only pain is.. Both are in between monorail stops, so you will do a little walking either way when you are not in a car or taking a cab or bus.. I don%26#39;t mind walking.. but they are semi-tough to get to on foot w/o comfy shoes and time

Thanks for all tips/suggestions! It will be my first time in Vegas so I am soooo sooo excited!!

I personally love Planet Hollywood rooms, expecially the bathrooms...

We%26#39;ve stayed at both.. PH pool is AWFUL! TI%26#39;s beds are great.

why is the pool so bad??

its a mid size pool on concrete.. very boring.. drink service can be non-existant. TI%26#39;s pool is on the small side but a very tropical feel and lots of music.

    Which hotel to chose?

    Hi all,

Not new to Ta, but first time post in the Mesquite forum!

Need some advice on which hotel to stay in for one night just passing thru.

I%26#39;m currently looking at either Virgin River Hotel %26amp; Spa and Oasis Resort %26amp; Casino and yes it%26#39;s because of the lower rate. Are these ok or are they ';get what you pay for'; or should I stick with either Casablanca Resort or Eureka?

Would appreciate any and all comments on these hotels!

I know you%26#39;ve all probably heard this question a millon times....just one more time please!!!

    Thanks all

    SJG

    Which hotel to chose?

    Hi-

I would stay at the Virgin River if I was looking at a cheaper place to stay. We have stayed there a few times and it is an older hotel but we have never had any problems. I do not recommend the Oasis.

The Eureka and Casabblanca are nicer. We are staying at the Casablanca next week.

Airport to Hotel in Vegas (Treasure Island)

Some advice please, getting from the Airport to Treasure Island.

Take a Cab? or a Shuttle?

Have heard that some cab drivers take you the long way round and charge the earth for the fare. Shuttles seem to charge approx $7 for the trip.

    Any suggestions.

    Thanks.

Airport to Hotel in Vegas (Treasure Island)

I took the shuttle (gray line) to the excalibur with no problems. $11.00 round trip. But I guess if you are in a hurry then the shuttle might not suit you.

Airport to Hotel in Vegas (Treasure Island)

I would recommend a cab as the shuttle will probably stop at the closer hotels first. My friend took the shuttle to Mirage (right next to TI) one time and it took him 45 mins to get there vs. 10 to 15 mins. in a cab. The cab ride will be around $10 to $12.

I would also suggest you take a cab. You sometimes have to wait for the shuttle to fill up before leaving and then you may not be the first one to be dropped off. Most people want to start their vacation as soon as possible and not take a tour of the back part of hotels!

If there are two of you- a cab might be cheaper. Shuttles charge per passenger.

The cab line might seem long but it usually moves quickly. If you don%26#39;t want the cab driver to take the tunnel just tell him to take Swenson.

would they automatically take swenson to the mgm grand? thanks

  • Any movie theaters on strip? Close to MB

I know, don%26#39;t I sound boring? Going to Vegas and looking for a movie theater? Going to the movies is a real treat because we have a one year old (who is staying home). Plus, we don%26#39;t gamble and we have been to Vegas before. Just curious in case we decide a movie would be fun. We%26#39;re staying at MB, anything close by.

Any movie theaters on strip? Close to MB

If I remember correctly, there is one in between MGM and Paris.

Any movie theaters on strip? Close to MB

Correct, near MGM, where the Coca Cola store and M%26amp;M Store is.

There is also one at The Palms. We took the shuttle from Harrah%26#39;s to Rio and walked across to the Palms last summer to see the opening of Harry Potter on IMAX.

Thank you, thank you. Really appreciate the info.

ACTUALLY just south of Mandalay Bay they just opened an area called Town Square and they have a movie theatre there. I think it%26#39;s a little closer than the Showcase Mall theatre.

Thank you Rockchik, doesn%26#39;t sound like I%26#39;ll find one closer.

I know that there%26#39;s a theater inside south point which is directly south of Mandalay Bay. Too far to walk but there%26#39;s a free shuttle that runs from south point to MB and back so it might be worth a shot to ask about grabbing that shuttle to go to south point.

    Is South Point a casino?

Yep, it%26#39;s a casino (one of my hubby%26#39;s favorites actually)

    www.southpointcasino.com

You can also take the free shuttle from Mandalay

to Green Valley Ranch. They have a large cinema

I think it has like 10-12.

    Luxor, TI or...?

    Hey everyone,

I am planning on doing a family trip to Las Vegas with my two daughters (18 and 23) this October. Looking for a resort with excellent spa, nightlife and preferably with a theme. Not particularly interested in Excalibur or Caesar%26#39;s, what is the best for rooms, value, entertainment, spa, etc.?

    Thanks,

    Michael

    Luxor, TI or...?

I%26#39;ve heard that the Spa at TI isn%26#39;t that great. Haven%26#39;t heard anything on the Luxor%26#39;s. Luxor does have a lot of nightlife now, from the new bars (Flight and Liquidity) and their new nightclub LAX. Staying at Luxor gives you easy access to NYNY (which I heard they just opened a new club there called RokVegas) and MGM Grand has Studio 54.

TI is more centrally located though and both hotels are in the process of re-doing their rooms. (I think TI is finished with theirs....Luxor%26#39;s are still undergoing renovation from what I hear).

    Luxor, TI or...?

I can understand not wanting to go to Excalibur, but what is wrong with Caesars? As fas as theme hotels go Caesars is my favorite. The location, shopping and nightlife are really good in this area of the strip. The rooms are a good size as well.

You have Luxor in your title, I was not happy with my stay at this location. Fine to visit the casino, but the rooms are not nice. Plus the location is OK at best.

Sticking with a theme, Paris is not too expensive.

I say TI over Luxor. If your interested in Spa services, try Mandalay Bay or maybe the Wynn. Luxor is not getting good reviews as of lately. You could also look into the MGM.

    Hey there,

Recently went to Europe and Mediterranean with my girls so was more interested in egyptian/asian/castle type themes for them. Great pool scene is not important for us. Any ideas?

Luxor is great value on the strip, but I don%26#39;t know about the spa. The Tower rooms are newly renovated and nicer than the Pyramid rooms. The LAX Club is great. You do know that the legal age there is 21, not 18? It costs $30.00 cover and then $9 - $15 a drink.

I have been to spa at Planet Hollywood and it%26#39;s very nice. I got a facial and massage and was very happy with the service. The resort itself is new and very nice. The location is perfect.

    Thanks for your response,

Yes I%26#39;m aware of drinking age thanks :)

The girls are most interested in shopping nearby, a good social scene and an interesting atmosphere for them to hang out in. Sounds like the Luxor will be great for us, the rooms sound basic from what we read but we don%26#39;t plan on spending time in the room no matter where we go so as long as the bed is relatively comfortable that%26#39;s fine. Thanks again everyone!

Luxor or Mandalay Bay would be my choices. If you stay at Luxor, try to get a room in the tower. I think your daughters will like the Shoppes at Mandalay Bay (between Luxor and MB). MB also has new rooms and the best pool in Vegas. It%26#39;s pricier than Luxor (and October can be one of the more expensive times to go), but still a good value.

    WSOP....Transportation from Strip to Rio

Headed to Vegas end of June through fourth of July, staying on the strip (MGM). How much is cab fare from MGM to Rio? Any cheaper ways to get from MGM to Rio (shuttle service)?

    WSOP....Transportation from Strip to Rio

Go to Bally%26#39;s, take their free shuttle. You can take the monorail from MGM to Bally%26#39;s. I would call or look up shuttle times so you don%26#39;t miss your tourney!

    WSOP....Transportation from Strip to Rio

There is a free shuttle to the Rio but not from MGM.

    harrahs.com/casinos/鈥aps-and-info.html

Do not take the monorail to Bally%26#39;s and then ride their shuttle. Why would you pay $9-$10 for a monorail pass when a cab to the Rio costs about the same? Cab is def your best bet!

Goldenkanes - Apparently, the possibility that the OP might be getting a monorail pass *anyway*, since staying at MGM, eluded you.

MickMan---Your best bet is to take the shuttle from Bally%26#39;s over to the Rio---we use it all the time when we are staying at Paris---its free! but if you like to walk to Bally%26#39;s from MGM, its not that far, we are in our 60%26#39;s and walk it all the time.

It may have eluded me Strat, but I%26#39;m a point A to point B guy. I stayed @ MGM in 06 when I played and everytime I took a cab. Usually there were many others doing the same so we would just group up.

PS Nick if your playing remember that scared money don%26#39;t make money!

    Thanks everyone!

Dinner suggestions on a Saturday night w/o reserervations

Planning a weekend getaway with hubby and trying to keep days and nights flexible. We have tix to ';O'; on a SATURDAY and am curious if we could eat at places like Boa%26#39;s Steakhouse, Joes%26#39;s Seafood, Mesa Grill, or even Fix or Sensi without reservations. Would be either early (5ish or late 9ish) dinner. Am I being foolish here, or is this possible? Looking to keep the tab UNDER $200. Would be even happier at under $150. We are staying at MB so we could eat down that way too. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Dinner suggestions on a Saturday night w/o reserervations

Just realized my typo in heading, OOPS!!!

Dinner suggestions on a Saturday night w/o reserervations

You probably could - especially if you go early.

I personally loved Sensi and Fix, so those are both really great options. I would also through Trader Vic%26#39;s in Planet Hollywood out there because they have great food and wonderful drinks - and from the patio you can watch the Bellagio fountains while you eat.

If you narrow it down between a few places and want to eat later, why not make a couple reservations and just cancel the ones you won%26#39;t use that day?

Make sure you bring a sweater for ';O'; - it is a very cold theatre!

Chi, Thanks for the suggestions. I might make a couple reservations-not a bad idea %26amp; now I know to bring a sweater to O. Thanks.

for most of those resturants if you go in the early afternoon you can usually make a reservation right there for that evening.

    Cheers!

Thank you Magic. I was wondering if that would be possible. By then I%26#39;ll know if we want an early or late dinner. Or maybe just a light meal of drinks and appetizers. And since were not set on any one restaurant I think I%26#39;ll go with that idea. Thanks for the info.

We always make 4:30pm reservations at Joe%26#39;s, for when we have a show at 7. They are quick, and it%26#39;s very good.

Since your show is at Bellagio, though, I would try Sensi or Fix and get there right when they open at 5pm, or make your reservations in advance.

Does the Monorail Go to/from the Airport?

Does the monorail go to and from the airport?

Does the Monorail Go to/from the Airport?

No, just up and down the strip

Does the Monorail Go to/from the Airport?

Even saying it goes up and down the strip is an exaggeration. I%26#39;m not a big fan of the monorail unless you need to go from, say, MGM to the Convention Center.

The problem is it is behind the properties on the east side of the strip- WAY behind! It%26#39;s a long hike through most of the hotels to the monorail stations. So, unless you are going a long way on the monorail, it%26#39;s just not worth the time.

Check these sights for it%26#39;s route:

    http://vegastodayandtomorrow.com/condomap.htm

    http://www.lvmonorail.com/

I enjoy this transportation. No different than walking from one major hotel to the next. Sahara to MGM. Currently running two specials.

I agree. We like the monorail. Its fast. Its clean. Gets me from point A to B in an effective manner. We dont drive because we drink. I dont like cabs because most of the drivers are jerks and have no personallity. Riding the monorail i have to deal with nobody. Everybody says ';Oh its such a long walk to the station';. Please!

It won%26#39;t get you from point A to point B if point A is the airport.

    sss wrote: ';Everybody says ';Oh its such a long walk to the station';. Please!';

I think that%26#39;s a little unfair. I did say it%26#39;s a long walk to the station. It%26#39;s not that it is somehow difficult, but it was meant more as a reminder that it%26#39;s not a great way to hotel hop. Along the strip, it is usually a quicker walk from hotel to hotel where there are stations, than it is to hike to the station, ride to the next one and hike to the casino.

No, the closest stop to the airport is the MGM Grand. Maybe a $10.00 cab ride from there to the Airport. The monorail is a great way to get up and down the strip, unlike the Deuce buses or the free trolley. You can ride the monorail for a 24 hour period for $15.00 or look in the vegas magazines in your hotel and most of them have a coupon for $9.00/24 hour.

Plans have been approved to extend the monorail to the airport, but it is not going to happen any time soon.

That will sure be great when they get the monorail to he airport and back. I bet the taxi drivers will NOT be happy with that, though! Think the monorail will go through the tunnel, LOL!?

I%26#39;m trying to imagine how they will manage an airport connection. There will be good volume, but the baggage could make it a nightmare.

    Phantom or Love?

    Hello,

If you were going to choose one show would it be Phantom or Love and why?

    Thanks!

    mbac

    Phantom or Love?

Love - you can only see it in Vegas, whereas Phantom of the Opera is or has been on at virtually every major city in the world.

    Phantom or Love?

I have seen them both in Vegas. LOVE hands down. I%26#39;m going to see it for the 3rd time in May.

That%26#39;s a tough one. The production of Phantom in Vegas is presented in a very special theater built just for this production (you can see some pictures of it on the Venetian web site). It is a shorter and different production that has been presented elsewhere. We saw Phantom in Washington DC at the Kennedy Center and again in Vegas. In Vegas we did the VIP experience and sat close. Amazing evening.

Love is amazing and we%26#39;ve seen that one twice. We would go again.

Shows are the only reason we go to Vegas and see a different one every night we%26#39;re there.

If I had to choose, I guess I%26#39;d go with Love but what a shame to miss Phantom.

Very tough choice. Phantom is by far my favorite show that I have seen, with Love a close 2nd. My advice, see both. You will not regret it.

    Cheers,

Have seen them both in Vegas last year. LOVE by all means! We didn%26#39;t care for Phantom at all. We loved everything about LOVE - the music, the choreography, the upbeat tempo. Phantom was blah. One scene in Phantom (the chandelier) was the only WOW factor. LOVE was one wow after another.

Love, without a doubt. If you%26#39;re at all into the Beatles, it%26#39;s an incredible, unforgettable show. I could see it again and again. Enjoy!

Thanks to everyone for their replies. It really is a hard decision, but I think I will go with LOVE based on everyone%26#39;s opinions!

Good choice. Everything about Love is so fantastic. You will not be disappointed. I have seen both and to me there is no comparison. Love wins by a mile.

Does anyone know if there are any discounts available for Love? I found one on Travelzoo for Phantom but didn%26#39;t see anything listed for Love.

    Thanks,
