Car rental

I have seen some messages in the past about the best place to rent a car but can%26#39;t find the references now. We will be staying at Harrah%26#39;s and driving to Reno for a day. This will be our first time in Reno and first time driving to Tahoe. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Car rental

I find the rental car companies at the airport are really fine. Easy to navigate while waiting for the luggage to unload in baggage claim (where the car desks are located).

For me, I check out their websites for the best prices (Advantage was the winner in December 07) and nice deals (Avis had a 4-wheel drive for a econo price recently-super for the snow) and then it%26#39;s just a personal preference.

While we often rent a car for the entire stay, we also just get one for a day. In this case, I grab the free hotel shuttle (Harrahs has one) out to the airport and pick up the car, use it and return to the airport. Then hop back on the free shuttle back to the hotel.

Hope it%26#39;s helpful and yo eleven!

Agree with Z that rentals right at the airport are convenient. One thing to keep in mind is that some of the smaller rental firms, like Advantage, Thrifty, and Enterprise, keep their cars off-site even though they have a counter at the airport. You would have to take a shuttle (they run on a regular basis and each agency has their own shuttles) to get to the cars. You may want to factor that into your decision if it%26#39;s important.

Thanks for the help. Advantage had a great deal from the airport so I%26#39;m glad to know about Harrah%26#39;s free shuttle. That will work great!

Just warning about advantage Reno they put you in a shuttle then take you to this crappy trailer near the airport to get your car. I have never experinced this before. I felt like I needed to watch for roaches.

I can%26#39;t vouch for the condition of ths shuttle KL, but if you do take the Harrah%26#39;s shuttle, you%26#39;ll then have to take another shuttle from the airport out to Advantage, and take the same two shuttles upon your return. I don%26#39;t think it%26#39;s a deal killer, but for some it might be a bit too much.

Is there much of a wait time for the shuttles? That could be a deal killer if I%26#39;m wasting half my morning being shuttled from one place to another.

I rented a car through Hotwire.com for Reno. I got a great price. The down side is I had to pay up front, and without knowing the rental agency. After you pay they tell you who it is. It turned out to be Hertz.

I was wondering where the Hertz rental pick up is. I used Priceline for my upcoming trip and ended up with Hertz.

MaryAnn:

There is no need for Hertz pickup. In the baggage claim area is the rental counters. Take your keys and paperwork out the door, walk maybe 100 yards across the street into the parking garage, find your car%26#39;s parking space. A piece of cake!

All the biggies use this same area of the parking garage for their cars.

StateRef,

Thanks for the info. I noticed that Priceline showed the pickup time just 30 min after our flight arrives. I figured that it must be close. Only 6 weeks til our trip. I%26#39;m getting excited.
