Wife's birthday - looking for best possible room

Almost a tradition - we will travel for a long-ish weekend on the wife%26#39;s birthday in late July. We%26#39;ve done San Diego once and Las Vegas at least three or four times. I suggested Laughlin as a slower pace and she wants to go...

We usually stay in one of the MGM properties in Vegas (MGM at least 10 times, NYNY once or twice, Luxor 3-4 times, Excalibur only once). The rooms in Laughlin for the weekend are a lot cheaper than Vegas, so I%26#39;m okay with paying for a nice room.

I%26#39;ve read about the walk to Harrah%26#39;s and it doesn%26#39;t bother me/us. The idea of the private beach at Harrah%26#39;s is appealing. The river view from the Golden Nugget pool is also appealing - I%26#39;m guessing we will spend a fair amount of time lying around doing nothing. The idea of an adults-only pool area and tower appeals to us (which is one of the reasons we stay at MGM in Vegas). Would really love a patio or balcony, especially one with a river view.

So, where%26#39;s the best place to stay - Harrah%26#39;s or Golden Nugget?

and...probably do Oatman (god knows why she wants to go there) and maybe rent a boat for the day on the lake, and maybe rent a couple of water bikes for a couple of hours for the river. Anything else of interest (oh yeah - the outlets). Driving in, so we will be mobile.

Anything else we MUST see/do?

Wife's birthday - looking for best possible room

Based upon everything you have said, I would have to say that Harrah%26#39;s is your best bet. It has an adults only tower and an adults only pool, as well as nice reataurants and a decent beach. Have fun!

So, what I%26#39;m hearing is ';If you don%26#39;t mind the walk, Harrah%26#39;s is a better bet than Golden Nugget'; - ?

Any patios/balconies @ Harrah%26#39;s?

Saltgrass is the better steakhouse in town, correct?

thanks for the quick answer on the initial post.

I would stay at harrahs in the adult tower and use the adult pool. The kids are out of school and sometimes they can be a real.....well you know......eat the buffet at harrahs and eat at saltgrass. I would not go to oatman in july its too hot...thats just my opinion as we live here year round. If you go get the forecast and make sure its not windy that day or even the rare rain forecast that that place is a quagemire when it rains and really dusty when the winds are up. The hotel does have good food. Sometimes you might not see the burros. We went last week and they were all over. When my daughter went there were none. The gunfight is at noon. Its ok pretty fake but the actors give it all they got.

I wouldn%26#39;t bother with Oatman. As someone who heard about it and was anxious to go, it wasn%26#39;t worth it. The buros plop all over the place. Watch where you walk. In July it will be too hot. I was hoping the shops would sell things made in Oatman. Aside from a few ornaments with the name Oatman on it and a donkey, there isn%26#39;t much you can%26#39;t get in any Walmart. The shoot out is dumb and dull. Parking is all over the place. The scenery is nice going out there. Such beautiful scenery for a dumpy old town. I wonder if some of these people who run the shops live in the houses you pass across from the Gold course.

';The buros plop all over the place'; They tried to teach them to use the toilet but the hooves... ah why bother.

Where did you think the burro%26#39;s were going to plop.

My advice avoid horses, cows and elephants. they can put the burro to shame.

The tourists I bring out to Oatman think it is great. And that ride from Oatman to Kingman on old 66 is breathtaking.

And after oatman for something to do one day take the xmas tree pass road.

The gift shops have some beautiful items that you cant get at alot of places. My mom got these embroidered jean and shirt outfits that we sure did not see at wallmart.
